Selecting your Lift or Carrier

The following overview will answer basic questions regarding our Lifts and Carriers category

» Outside Manual

The Outside Carriers in this category require no electrical wiring.  Most of them tilt down to ground level to facilitate loading, while others have retractable ramps and remain in a stationery position. They require a class 2 or Class 3 Hitch and tie down straps. They are the most economy solution to load manually scooters or power chairs.

» Outside Electric

Outside Carriers are designed to be installed onto a class 2 or class 3 hitch mounted on the back of a vehicle and fold up when not in use. These electric lifts offer ease of use and connect directly to the car battery or use a Battery Pack Option. An automatic lift will fold, unfold, lower and raise by operating a single switch. A semi-automatic lift requires manual folding and unfolding of the platform.

A swing away option is also available on most outside lifts, to swing the outside lift to the side to access the tailgate of a truck or the hatch of a station wagon or mini van.
These lifts are designed to work for power chairs or scooters.

»Inside Electric

Inside lifts are designed to work in most car trunks, truck beds, vans or mini-vans. This type of lift would be mounted in the trunk and wired to the vehicle battery for power. Several options are available to lift manual wheelchairs, power chairs or scooters into your vehicle.
Most these electric lift systems require a docking device to be attached to your power chair or scooter, and they are operated with a remote control. Depends on your vehicle/lift configuration you can load your scooter or power chair with the seat on or off into your vehicle.

» Outside Inside

Electric Lifts in this category are also known as Hybrid or Swing lifts. As they carry the scooter or power chair on a platform from the outside and load it inside the vehicle automatically. These lifts are normally used in vans and minivans, and require the removal of the vehicle third seat.  The Hybrid lifts are convenient and easy to use and install, and connect directly to the car battery or use a Battery Pack Option as a power supply.

»Manual Wheelchair Carrier

Carriers in this category are easy and inexpensive way to transport manual wheelchairs. They are generally installed on a class I vehicle Hitch. They range from manual to electric carriers. They feature all-steel frame and quality construction

» Accessories

You can find here accessories for your Lift or carrier from covers, straps, locks, battery packs,  wiring kits, docking devices, license plate kits and more.

Determining the Wheelchair Lift You Need

The first consideration you must make when purchasing a lift is whether you are able to transfer from your power chair or scooter to a vehicle, or if you prefer or need to remain in your chair while traveling. Once you have determined your situation your search for the perfect lift will become narrow enough to make a choice

Before deciding on a lift or carrier ask yourself these questions:

  • Is the make, model, and year of your vehicle compatible with your choice of lift?
  • What type of power chair or scooter do you have? Is it compatible with the lift?
  • Are any modifications necessary to install the lift in your current vehicle?
